Weaver Council nixes Mayors request for employee salary freezes

Weaver Mayor Wayne Willis proposed Tuesday to freeze employee salaries for one year, but the city council was not keen on the idea. Willis suggested the budget for the next fiscal year not include the 3 percent raise, called a step raise, that city employees typically get. Willis said that since taking office the council had not made any cuts, but raised revenue by raising water and sanitation rates and adding a sales tax in the city. The five council members unanimously said they were set against the freeze, and Willis said he would not include the measure while drafting the budget.
