Gadsden robbery victim shot at while pursuing robbers

Gadsden police are investing the robbery of A 19-year-old man who said he was robbed and when he tried to pursue the robbers, they opened fire on him. The victim told policie he was purchasing scratch-off tickets about 1 a.m. Sunday at the Texaco on West Meighan Boulevard and had gotten back into his friend’s vehicle when a man approached their car. The victim said the man reached into the vehicle and took his wallet from his back pocket. The victim said when he tried to walk toward the robber to retrieve his wallet, a man in the robber’s vehicle pulled a gun. The victim said he saw the robber get into a silver or grey Nissan and leave.
The victim and his friend followed the Nissan down Third Street toward Ewing Avenue, then onto Ewing to Albert Rains Boulevard and finally to a neighborhood near Riverview Regional Medical Center.
The victim told police the Nissan stopped at one of the houses and all of the passengers got out and went inside except the robber. The victim said the robber approached the vehicle, pointed his gun at him and shot into the grille of the car. He and his friend then went to Riverview and waited for police to arrive.
Police found the car had bullet holes in it and one of the front tires had been shot out. The incident remains under investigation.
