Two killed in Gadsden drive by shooting

Gadsden police are searching for suspects involved in a drive-by shooting on a busy city street early Saturday morning. Police say the shooting occurred on the coosa river bridge on Meighan Blvd. Deputy Coroner Michael Head identified the victims as 51 year old Billy Baker, and 35 year old Jobari Playe, both were pronounced dead on the scene shortly after 1 Saturday morning.. Police received a 911 call about 12:20 a.m. Saturday morning as shooting began in front of Waffle House on East Meighan Boulevard. The men were traveling west from East Gadsden in a 1989 Nissan Stanza when another vehicle pulled up next to them and someone inside began shooting. The Stanza jumped the median and eventually wound up in the eastbound lane, where it came to rest. Player was driving and Baker was a passenger in the vehicle. Head said he believed the two men died from multiple gunshot wounds from a weapon such as an AK-47, judging by their injuries. Their bodies have been transported to Huntsville for autopsy.
