Woman arrested after stabbing roommate

A 21 year old Anniston woman has been arrested on domestic violence accused of stabbing her roommate in the leg with a steak knife. Janay Marie Hawkins has been charged with felony second-degree domestic violence. Police were called to a home on Elm Street where they found the 23-year-old victim who told officers that she and Hawkins were arguing over food and the victim wanted Hawkins to leave. While Hawkins was gathering her property, the victim was sitting on the couch and an officer was standing nearby. As the victim was taking her house key off Hawkins’s key ring, Hawkins walked toward the victim and stabbed her. The woman suffered a cut to her left leg from a 6-inch steak knife. The officer immediately arrested Hawkins,. The victim was taken to Regional Medical Center. George said she required stitches and is expected to recover from her injuries. Hawkins was taken to the Calhoun County Jail placed under a $30,000 bond.
